First Holy Communion Instruction

The pastor annually offers a special program of instruction which prepares young persons to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time. The program is intended for persons in the first grade (or age 7) through the seventh grade who have not yet received communion instruction, and thus are not participating in the sacrament by receiving the elements of bread and wine. Participation in the reception of the sacrament is a joint decision between the pastor, the parents, and the child. Two implications of this guideline are that youth who will receive instruction to receive the sacrament prior to confirmation (grade 8) should be regular in their pattern of attendance at worship and are beginning or have been expressing interest in receiving the sacrament.

Fall 2008 Schedule

This fall the instructional program will be offered on . . .

     Sunday, November 16
     Sunday, November 23
     Sunday, December 7
     Sunday, December 14

. . . .following the worship service. Class sessions will end promptly at 12:30 PM. The participants in the program received the sacrament for the first time on the Fourth Sunday in Advent (Sunday, December 21) at the 10:30 A.M. liturgy. A reception for those who will receive the sacrament for the first time will be held immediately following the service.

If you have a child between the first and the seventh grades who appropriately should be included in a First Communion class, please contact the pastor  to express you interest.
